Everyone says that a trench coat is a wardrobe essential, but when you live in a state where the winter winds whip at your legs it comes in handy to have a sturdier coat that reaches past your knees. Cue the long coat. Long coats have been seen all over runways for the last few years. Both Chanel and Michael Kors fall 2014 ready-to-wear collections featured this over the top outerwear.
For my outfit I paired my camel colored coat with an all white ensemble. This helped to make the colors pop against each other. Next I added a chunky necklace and my favorite pair of slip on sneakers. Finally, I topped my outfit off with a gray beanie and a statement clutch.
One of the best things about a long coat is that it can be utilized in many different ways. It can be worn simply as an outerwear accessory or as the statement piece of an outfit. Next time you wear your coat try belting it around the waist to help give definition to your outfit.
As this semester draws to a close I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on campus who made it incredibly fun to be a Style Guru. My personal style has grown, shifted and changed all for the better. I feel incredibly honored to have been apart of the College Fashionista team and I cannot wait to see what this amazing organization will achieve next.
Since this is my last article I thought I would give one final piece of advice. I wanted to express again that style is unique for each person. What works for one, won’t necessarily work for another. Find what makes you feel confident and don’t be afraid to experiment with different trends. If you never try, you’ll never know.
